I had such an awesome time photographing Leanne & Sean’s wedding in Florence Italy. As a wedding photographer, it was awesome to get the chance to photograph a wedding in Florence, Italy. Lean and Sean, and Florence were amazing.
Leanne’s preparation took place at Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni n.1. A lovely hotel in the heart of Florence, with amazing views of the city both from the windows but also the terrace on the roof. After photographing Leanne’s preparation, I met Sean and his groomsmen (and Annie his mum) near the legendary Ponte Vecchio (the medieval bridge over the Arno) to photograph their short walk to the Palazzo Vecchio, on the Piazza Della Signoria where the ceremony was to take place. It was 26 degrees. It was hot and Florence was as crowded as you might expect it to be in summer. Leanne arrived by horse and carriage. She looked amazing.
The ceremony took place at the Sala Rossa, within the Palazzo Vecchio. Italian civil ceremonies happen in a slightly different format than UK weddings, but lovely all the same. After the official vows were exchanged, Leanne and Sean exchanged their personal vows, which they had written themselves. Following the Ceremony we headed to Piazzale Michelangelo for drinks. Piazzale Michelangelo overlooks Florence, and has amazing panoramic views of the city. As the evening drew closer, we headed back to the Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni n.1 for the wedding breakfast, speeches and the first dance.
When I asked Leanne ‘Why Florence?’ She said ‘Sean booked a surprise city break to Florence for my birthday back in October 2011 (also our first holiday together) and apparently it was whilst we were sat for whole afternoon in the bar overlooking the city (location for our cocktails) he decided he was going to ask me to marry him and that we would marry in Florence, as soon as he got home he started to save for the ring and proposed 1 year later’.
